When is replacement worth considering?

Age is one part of the picture. Heat damage, corrosion, water intrusion, unreliable breakers, deteriorated service equipment, and insufficient capacity all deserve a professional evaluation. A new panel can provide a sound connection point for your existing circuits and room for properly planned additions.

  • Panel and breaker repairs or replacement
  • Meter equipment, overhead service and underground service replacements
  • Grounding, bonding and surge protection reviewed with the project
  • Permit and utility coordination as required for the scope

Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels

Federal Pacific Stab Lok: CPSC testing found failures of certain UL calibration requirements. CPSC closed its investigation without determining that these breakers were safe. We recommend an evaluation and replacement discussion rather than relying on appearance or a breaker that has never tripped.

Zinsco: concerns include deteriorating breaker to bus connections, corrosion and overheating that can damage the bus and interfere with breaker operation. Diff Electric recommends replacing these legacy systems with suitable modern equipment.

Replacement is planned around your home’s condition and electrical demand; not simply a bigger breaker. A service capacity upgrade also requires checking the service conductors, meter equipment and utility requirements.
